Neutral Scraps

I had a number of gray, white, and tan blocks left over from a wedding quilt I did a while back, so added a few other blocks I had leftover. Can you find the teddy bear's nose? It sort of looks like he has sunglasses on. The turquoise had been hard to use, but there was a good yard of it, but I didn't have any backing that matched, and I need to save neutrals for... well, anything I can.

Hence the surprise orange back, complete with underwear and socks. For when you want other people to think your baby quilt is cool and modern, but when you use it to make a fort, you know how fun the wrong side of the quilt is.

Scrapping It Up!

Used a number of yellow 3.5" blocks that were left over from other projects and used a particularly vibrant red and yellow fabric for blocks, border and backing.

My design process has always been driven by using whatever I had available, but with no fabric stores around, this has become even more important. When I find fabric that two yards or more, I will buy it, no matter what the color or pattern is!

Ocean Waves #4

A friend gave me some scraps that included 4" strips of a lovely blue and red paisley, although it looks more brown here. I had lots of beige scraps, as well as yards of the border fabric in a flag print that I got at Scrap it Up in Cincinnati. This is for my cousin's new grandson.

Ocean Waves #3

Quilting season 2026 is officially open! I'm not feeling tremendously motivated, but have a couple of baby quilts I need to do. Trying to whittle down my boxes of scraps-- I cut everything into 3.5" squares, 2.5" squares, or 6.5" strips when I get to the end of a piece. Those boxes are pretty full. Have some patterns, just need to sew. Have three tops cut out and in bags with instructions if I have time.

Yes, this is my THIRD ocean waves quilt, but it always comes out so nicely. This will go to a friend with some health issues.

The yellows and the bee fabric came from the Edna Stash last year. The gray and orange print was a remnant from Joann's before they closed. Sigh.

Always love a good four patch with a fun print.

Batiks

A friend gave me a stack of very pretty batiks. Not sure I used them as well as I could have.

School Colors

When in doubt, it's hard to go wrong with my school colors or OSU colors for baby quilts.

Quilts I sewed last summer...

but didn't quilt until December, and then generally forgot to photograph. I've given away about eight that I forgot to take pictures of. Oh, well. Do love this zig zag pattern.

Related fabrics.

Made a number of quilt tops over the summer and finished them over winter break, but forgot to take pictures, because there was so much snow.

A friend gave me a packet of these related fabrics, and they seemed like they should stay together.

This is going to a teacher at school.

Edna's Magnum Opus

Remember Edna and her amazing stash? This quilt is made up of the tiniest pieces of fabric, many of the patterns I have used! I backed it with some perfectly good but slightly faded 1990s blue fabric from the thrift store. This wasn't well ironed, but I thought the blocks were a uniform size... until they weren't. I picked out more quilting stitches from this one until I realized that there were times when Edna just went completely off the rails and there was just no consistency to guide my stitches. We have an art teacher who will enjoy this as a lap quilt. It didn't feel good enough to go to a baby.

Improved Nine Patch

This is an improved nine patch, the pattern to which I can no longer find. It involved cutting up a standard nine patch block and sewing it back together. I really like the pattern so will look for it.

The flowered fabric was some that my daughter found at the thrift store, but it is a polyester blend. This is the very last blended fabric I plan on using, as I have had to repair some thirty year old quilts in which similar fabric did not wear well.

This is for a math teacher who is expecting; I never know how the young will feel about quilts, so it this shows up at the thrift store some day, I won't be surprised. Or hurt.

Streak of Lightning- Brown

I apparently like this pattern quite a bit. The brown squares are leftover from when I cut too many for my grandson's quilt. The being actually has tiny maps on it.

The back is a rather large brown and maroon print with pine cones that is from... 1995. It was perfect for this project, so must have been why I bought two yards of it.

This is going to one of our language arts teachers who has a new grandson.
